One of the Area's Most Eclectic Shoppes
Opened in 2003, The Great Train Robbery is a uniquely eclectic emporium
of contemporary, timeless, and farmhouse furnishings, along with home décor, gifts, artwork, hand-made jewelry, apparel & accessories, and much more!
Our showroom floor,
which was originally the historic Banner Elk Glove Factory,
offers customers a wide range of fine gifts along with a mix of furniture and home décor pieces.
Our style is timeless, authentic, inspired, unexpected and fresh. The shop also offers one of a kind objects from local artisans along with a selection of organic soaps & hand poured candles.
The Turchins are a family of artists each with their own distinct mediums. Together, they have curated a life centered on gratitude, local and global awareness, and an unwavering commitment to the ones they love most.
The Great Train Robbery represents this collection of a life well lived. Be sure to say hello to John, Susan, Ashley, or Jordan when you're in for a visit!
John Michael Rhem, Creative Director for the new Great Train Robbery, has always believed in a simple, yet timeless aesthetic. His passion is creating functional spaces while remaining contemporary and inspired.
With a strong background in interior design and after working in Miami's design center, John Michael returned to the mountains of North Carolina as a graduate of Appalachian State University to bring the High Country a fresh concept on modern farmhouse design.
John Michael is responsible for designing our ever-changing showroom, sourcing new products, and working one-on-one with clients to create their own inspired spaces.
